About the Physicians

Stelios Rekkas, MD, FACS, FASMBS, Director of Bariatric Program at Manatee Memorial Hospital

Stelios Rekkas, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a general surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery. He is trained in using the da Vinci® Surgical System and is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support.

Dr. Rekkas received his doctorate in medicine from the Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, Florida, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Rekkas later completed a fellowship in minimally invasive, bariatric, and robotic surgery at Jackson Hospital in Miami, Florida. A native of the region, the doctor grew up in Anna Maria Island, Florida, and is a graduate of Manatee High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

His professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Alfredo Cordova, MD, FACS

Alfredo C. Cordova, MD, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon.

He earned his medical degree from the Unisersidad San Martin de Porres in Lima, Peru. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, and a chief residency in general surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Cordova later completed a fellowship in burn surgery from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He has also completed post-doctoral research in vascular surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Julie Chorley

Julie Chorley, PA-C

Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida. She received her master of science degree in physician assistant studies from South University in Tampa, Florida, where she also served as vice president of her class. She holds memberships in various medical organizations, including the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
